Desa Muck�??s appearance marked a new era in Slovenian teenager�??s literature. Her series of Dead Serious novels (Dead serious about sex, 1993, Dead serious about good manners, 1995, Dead serious about getting stoned, 1996, Dead serious about fame, 1998, Dead serious about school, 2000) was a great success with teenagers as well as with teachers and psychologists. These books are at the same time novels, handbooks and companions, dealing with various teenagers�?? problems (including taboo topics) and stimulating critical reflection. Muck�??s writing is remarkable for her sense of humor, her perspicacity and generosity. As actor and screenwriteer, she has acquired perfect mastery of dialogue, and her creative use of colloquial language is especially suited to communication with adolescent readers.
